About Me

I am a passionate teacher determined to help students find a newfound love for math and empowering them to believe in their math abilities.

Hello!

Have you ever heard yourself say the phrase "I am not a math person"? I used to say this all the time myself until a wise math professor challenged me. She said that everyone has the potential to be good at math, and the words we tell ourselves matter. From that moment on, I started learning and teaching math from a new perspective. Now, I LOVE math, I love teaching math and I love challenging my students who believe that they are "not a math person". I believe that EVERYONE can love and find success in math, and I am passionate about helping my students become math people too.

I have been teaching with the Edmonton Public School Board since 2017. Most of those years I taught grades 5 and 6, but I spent a few months in a Pre-kindergarten classroom which was it's own adventure!

With the recent rushed implementation of the new curriculum, I understand the concerns and challenges many students face in bridging the gaps in their math knowledge. Rest assured, I am here to provide the support and guidance needed to conquer these obstacles.

What sets me apart as an excellent choice of tutor for math is my deep understanding of elementary-level mathematics and my ability to tailor my teaching methods to suit each student's unique learning style. I believe in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring concepts, and building their mathematical confidence. By focusing on building a strong foundation, I ensure that students not only grasp the current math topics but also develop the skills necessary for future success.

I strongly believe in differentiation, or meeting each student where they are and then helping them learn and grow from there. Pre-assessment, or figuring out what students already know, is a vital part of the teaching process.

Together, we will work through challenging concepts, clarify any misconceptions, and unlock the joy of learning math. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to foster a genuine appreciation for mathematics and its practical applications in everyday life.
